transfers news

Olympiak. 20.1.10
Olympiacos sack Zico after four months in charge

Olympiacos have parted company with Brazilian coach Zico after a string poor results that has left the team seven points adrift of arch-rivals Panathinaikos in the title race. The 56-year-old Brazil legend had only been in charge at the Greek champions for fourth months, having replaced Temuri Ketsbaia on September 16. Serbian Bozidar Badovic will take over in a caretaker capacity.

Badovic, 40, enjoyed some success in his brief spell in charge in September, leading Olympiacos to victories against AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Champions League and PAOK in the Greek League. Meanwhile, Olympiacos have signed Argentinian midfielder Jesus Datolo on a six-month loan from Napoli. Datolo is Olympiacos's second arrival of the January transfer window following the return of Lomana LuaLua as a free agent.

Porto 20.1.10
Porto snap up Micael, Bolatti moves to Fiorentina

Porto have made their first signing of the January window by acquiring Portuguese midfielder Ruben Micael on a four-and-a-half-year contract from league rivals Nacional. Porto have paid €3m for 60% of the 23-year-old player's rights. Despite scoring just two goals in 16 league matches this term, Micael has an impressive strike rate in Europe with five goals in six UEFA Europa League matches for Nacional.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina have reached an agreement with Porto for Argentine midfielder Mario Bolatti. No details over a transfer fee or contract have been released for the 24-year-old, who played only 15 league games with Porto since joining in 2007 from Argentinian club Belgrano. Bolatti impressed during a successful loan stint at Huracan in his homeland during the 2009 season, when he was voted the league's best player.

Sevilla 7.1.10
Sevilla land Sampdoria's Stankevicius

Sevilla have signed Lithuanian international defender Marius Stankevicius on loan from Sampdoria until the end of the season. The deal includes an option to buy the 28-year-old at the end of this season. Capped 49 times by his country, Stankevicius will provide cover for right-back Sergio Sanchez, whose playing future is uncertain after doctors found he had a heart ailment.

Milan 3.11.09
Beckham's return to Milan confirmed

David Beckham will rejoin Milan on loan in January after the Italian club reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The 34-year-old midfielder has always been keen on a move back to Italy to improve his chances of earning a place in Fabio Capello's England squad for the 2010 World Cup. Beckham had a loan spell at Milan last season, during the Major League Soccer off-season.

Milan 1.11.09
Milan confirm Adiyiah signing

Milan have agreed to sign Ghanaian forward Dominic Adiyiah from Norway's Fredrikstad in January while a loan deal for David Beckham will be announced soon. Adiyiah, 20, was top scorer when Ghana won the Under-20 World Cup in October and is being bought because Milan's pickup in form has coincided with a switch to a 4-3-3 formation. Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Beckham spent five months on loan at Milan last season and a repeat spell from January has been in the pipeline for months as he aims to secure a place in England's World Cup squad.

Chelsea 22.10.09
Chelsea appeal against transfer ban

Chelsea have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the ban on signing new players for two transfer windows imposed on them by FIFA. The Stamford Bridge side were found guilty by world football's governing body of inducing Gael Kakuta to breach his Lens contract as a 16-year-old in 2007. Chelsea have also asked for the transfer ban to be suspended until the result of the appeal is decided.

Standard 24.9.09
Olivier Dacourt joins Standard

Former French international Olivier Dacourt has joined Standard Liege until the end of the season. The 35-year-old was a free agent after spending the second half of last season on loan to Fulham from Inter Milan. The Belgian champions have moved for the midfielder as cover for Steven Defour, who broke his foot two weeks ago and could be out for several months. Dacourt will not be eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Chelsea 4.9.09
Chelsea handed shock FIFA transfer ban

Chelsea have been banned by FIFA from signing any new players for the next two transfer windows. The punishment was handed out by world football's governing body after French clubs Lens made an official complaint over the Blues' signing of French teenager Gael Kakuta in 2007. FIFA claim Chelsea induced Kakuta into breaking his contract with Lens with an illegal cash offer when he was 16 years old. As a result, Chelsea can sell players but they cannot sign any new players until January 2011. They are expected to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, defender Ashley Cole has become the latest player to pledge his future to Chelsea, agreeing a new four-year contract with the early season Premier League leaders. The 28-year-old English international left-back has joined captain John Terry, Didier Drogba, John Obi Mikel and Florent Malouda in signing a new deal this summer. Cole moved to Stamford Bridge from Arsenal in 2006 and has since made 88 Premiersip appearances for the London club, scoring three times.
