Athletic increase attacking options

Athletic Bilbao have announced the signing of Inigo Diaz de Cerio from Real Sociedad. The striker was keen to leave the San Sebastian team, who are stuck in the Spanish second division. Diaz de Cerio, 25, broke his right leg last season but appears to have fully recovered. He has signed a four-year deal with Athletic who hope he will provide the ideal foil to striker Fernando Llorente.

Gijon sign Miguel De Las Cuevas

Sporting Gijon have reached a deal with Atletico Madrid to sign Miguel de las Cuevas for the next four seasons. The midfielder spent three years with Atletico but despite making it into the first team last year he was not part of Abel Resino's plans. Even though De Las Cuevas has left the club, there is a chance he will return, with Atletico having an option to buy him back after his deal with Sporting has expired.

Real Madrid agree deal for Raul Albiol

Real Madrid have reached a deal to sign Spain defender Raul Albiol from Valencia on a five-year contract. Local media reported the transfer fee was around €15m. Albiol, 23, is likely to partner Portuguese international Pepe in central defence. Real Madrid have already spent €68m on Kaka and have agreed to pay a world record €94m fee to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in recent weeks.

Villarreal have signed goalkeeper Xavi Oliva from second-division side Castellon on a two-year contract. Oliva, 33, made 196 league appearances during a seven-year stay at Castellon and he will provide competition for first choice custodian Diego Lopez. Meanwhile, his arrival at Villarreal has led to fresh suggestions that Lopez could again be on his way this summer.

Nakamura joins Sahar at Espanyol

Espanyol have agreed a two-year free transfer deal with Celtic's Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura. Nakamura, who turns 31 next week, scored 29 goals in 128 league appearances for Celtic, and 23 for Japan from 87 internationals, including at the 2006 World Cup. Espanyol have also completed the signing of teenage Chelsea striker Ben Sahar on a four-year deal. The 19-year-old, who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Dutch club De Graafschap, is believed to have cost the Primera Division team around €1m.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is confident that a deal to sign David Villa from Valencia will be concluded in the near future. Negotiations for the Spain striker's ran into problems last weekend, with differences over his value the main sticking point according to media reports. Meanwhile, Franck Ribery's move from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid is moving closer to a reality, said Zinedine Zidane who is special adviser to Perez. Media reports said Bayern have turned down a €55m offer from Real for Ribery.

Almeria have secured the services of Colombia midfielder Fabian Vargas on a three-year contract. The 29-year-old, who helped Colombia win the Copa America in 2001, arrives as a free agent from Boca Juniors. Valencia have announced the capture of French defender Jeremy Mathieu from Toulouse on a free transfer. The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year contract. Mathieu has played for Toulouse for the past four years and was regarded as one of the best left-backs in France. He is Valencia's second signing of the summer following the acquisition of Castellon defender Angel Dealbert.

Javier Calleja has signed a two-year deal with Osasuna, with an option for a third, after leaving Malaga as a free agent. The 31-year-old left-winger joined the Andalucian side back in 2006 after he played at Villarreal for seven seasons. It has been reported that Osasuna have also been linked with Real Madrid youngster Gorka Unda but as of yet no deal has been announced.

United accept record Real bid for Ronaldo

Manchester United have accepted a world-record bid of 80 million pounds (€94m) from Real Madrid for Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo. Real signed Kaka for €68m from Milan on Tuesday and have followed that with a larger offer for the 24-year-old. Ronaldo has long been a target for the Spanish giants, whose recently returned president Florentino Perez wants to bring back the glory days of their "galactico" era. Terms are expected to be concluded by June 30.

Ronaldo's Old Trafford future had been the subject of intense speculation since the end of the season and Real finally appear to have landed the the World and European Player of the Year, who spent last June pushing for what he called at the time a "dream move" to Madrid. Ronaldo, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, scored 118 times in 291 appearances for the England champions. He led the club to a hat-trick of titles between 2007 and 2009.

Kaka joins Real Madrid for €68m

Real Madrid have signed Brazilian playmaker Kaka from Milan. The reported fee of €68m would make Kaka's move the second biggest transfer ever with Zinedine Zidane's €73m switch from Juventus to Madrid in 2001 still holding the all-time record. Kaka, the 2007 FIFA world player of the year, has agreed a contract running until 2015. The 27-year-old is the first step in Real Madrid president Florentino Perez's plan to return the Spanish side to the glory days of their "galactico" era.

Atletico Madrid confirm Maniche exit

Atletico Madrid have parted company with Portugal midfielder Maniche by mutual consent. The 31-year-old former Chelsea, Benfica and Porto player has left the club with immediate effect ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season. Maniche joined Atletico in 2006, and scored seven goals in 64 league appearances for the club, despite a brief spell on loan at Inter Milan.
