transfers news

Valladolid 3.2.10
Valladolid sack coach Mendilibar, promote Onesimo

Valladolid have sacked coach Jose Luis Mendilibar after a poor run of from and reserve team coach Onesimo Sanchez would take over first-team duties. Sunday's draw against relegation rivals Almeria left the club just one point above the drop zone, with only three wins in their past 31 league games. Onesimo has been given the job of saving the team from relegation. Meanwhile, Valladolid have taken Valencia left back Asier del Horno on loan until the end of the season.

Zaragoza 2.2.10
Edmilson returns to Spain with Zaragoza

Zaragoza have signed Brazilian midfielder Edmilson from Palmeiras until the end of the season. The 33-year-old was a part of the Brazil side that won the World Cup in 2002 and the Barcelona squad that won the UEFA Champions League in 2006. Struggling Zaragoza have made a flurry of January signings including goalkeeper Roberto, defender Matteo Contini, midfielders Jiri Jarosik and Eliseu, and strikers Adrian Colunga and Humberto Suazo.

Atletico M 23.1.10
Atletico Madrid sign forward Eduardo Salvio

Atletico Madrid have signed19-year-old striker Eduardo Antonio "Toto" Salvio from Lanus for a reported €8m. The Argentinian international has agreed a five-and-a-half-year deal at the Vicente Calderon, becoming Atletico's second acquisition of the January transfer window following Tiago's loan move from Juventus. Salvio has played 47 games for Lanus and scored 13 goals. He has also won two full international caps for Argentina.

Zaragoza 15.1.10
Zaragoza sign Czech midfielder Jarosik

Zaragoza have completed the signing of experienced Czech Republic midfielder Jiri Jarosik from Krylya Sovetov Samara on a free transfer. The 32-year-old former Chelsea and Celtic player has spent the last two years with the Russian club. Zaragoza have already strengthened their squad with midfielder Eliseu and striker Humberto Suazo in the January transfer window.

Atletico M 13.1.10
Atletico sign Argentine teen striker

Atletico Madrid, looking to recover from a dismal first half of the season, have announced the signing of Lanus striker Eduardo Salvio for €8m. The 19-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in Argentina. He can play up front or on the right as an attacking midfielder and scored four goals in 16 appearances in 2009/2010. Salvio made his debut last year with Argentina's national team. Atletico last week also signed Portuguese international midfielder Tiago on loan from Juventus.

Espanyol 12.1.10
Espanyol land Bologna striker Osvaldo

Espanyol have taken Bologna forward Pablo Daniel Osvaldo on loan until the end of the season. The 23-year-old began his career with Argentinean side Huracan before moving to Italy. Osvaldo joined Bologna last January for €7m from Fiorentina but has managed just one goal in his time at the Staid Renato Dall'Ara. Espanyol have scored just 12 goals in their 17 matches so far this season, the second lowest tally in the league.

Malaga 10.1.10
Malaga take Caicedo on loan from City

Malaga have reached an agreement with Manchester City to take the Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo on loan for the remainder of the season. The 21-year-old has been on loan at Sporting Lisbon since the summer but the Portuguese club decided not to pursue a permanent deal. Caicedo, who joined City from Basel two years ago, made seven league appearances for Sporting and a further three in the Europa League.

Atletico M 9.1.10
Tiago leaves Juventus to join Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have strengthened their squad with the loan signing of Portuguese international midfielder Tiago from Juventus until the end of the season. As part of the deal for the 28-year-old, Atletico have agreed an option to buy the former Benfica and Braga player should he impress at the Vicente Calderon. Tiago arrives in the Spanish capital following two-and-a-half seasons in Turin where he made 42 Serie A appearances.

Sevilla 7.1.10
Sevilla land Sampdoria's Stankevicius

Sevilla have signed Lithuanian international defender Marius Stankevicius on loan from Sampdoria until the end of the season. The deal includes an option to buy the 28-year-old at the end of this season. Capped 49 times by his country, Stankevicius will provide cover for right-back Sergio Sanchez, whose playing future is uncertain after doctors found he had a heart ailment.

Atletico M 4.1.10
Cristian Molinaro set to join Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Juventus to take defender Cristian Molinaro on loan until the end of the current season. The 26-year-old has found first-team opportunities at the Italian side limited following the arrival of Fabio Grosso from Lyon last summer. Atletico have been looking to add to their leaky defense and Molinaro's arrival will provide competition for current left-backs Antonio Lopez and Mariano Pernia, who has only just returned to the first team after suffering a car crash this summer.

Barcelona 22.12.09
Pep Guardiola's Barcelona future in doubt

Barcelona have won all six competitions they have contested since Pep Guardiola took charge 18 months ago but the 38-year-old coach has yet to reveal whether he will extend his contract beyond this season. Since taking over from Dutchman Frank Rijkaard in June 2008, his side have won the Spanish league and Cup, the European Champions League, the Spanish and European Super Cups and the Club World Cup. Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has ruled out any move for Manchester City striker Robinho during the January transfer window.

Valencia 15.12.09
Dominguez join Valencia on free transfer

Valencia have signed Argentine forward Alejandro Dominguez on a three-and-a-half free transfer deal from Russia's Rubin Kazan. The 28-year-old scored 16 goals as Rubin won their second successive Russian league title as well as scoring twice in six UEFA Champions League appearances this season. He was also voted player of the year in the Russian league. Dominguez will compete with Spain's David Villa and Serbia's Nikola Zigic for a place in the starting line up.
