transfers news

Galatas. 6.7 : Harry Kewell has signed a two-year contract with Turkish champions Galatasaray. The Australian international winger became available on a free transfer after he was cut by Liverpool at the end of the English season following five injury-troubled years at Anfield. Kewell, 29, joined Liverpool in 2003 on a lucrative contract from Leeds, but managed only 93 league appearances.

Fenerb. 1.6 : Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign Turkey midfielder Emre Belozoglu. Details were not immediately revealed, but local media reported that Fenerbahce had agreed to pay €5m for Emre, who would receive a salary of €3.5m per year. The 27-year-old joined Newcastle from Inter in 2005.

Besiktas 1.6 : Czech Republic defender Tomas Sivok has signed a four-year contract with Besiktas. The 24-year-old was previously on loan from Serie A club Udinese to Sparta Prague. Sivok, who can also be used as a midfielder, has played six internationals and is in the Czech squad for next week's European Championship. Sivok moved to Udinese in January 2007 but failed to get a spot in the starting lineup.

Besiktas 2.2 : Besiktas have signed defender Gordon Schildenfeld from Dinamo Zagreb. The 22-year-old has signed an 18-month contract worth of €2m. Schildenfeld has been signed as cover for injury-prone Turkish international Gokhan Zan.

Galatas. 31.1 : Galatasaray have signed Ghanaian midfielder Ahmed Apimah Barusso on loan from Italian side Roma until the end of the season. The 23-year-old will head for Turkey once Ghana's African Cup of Nations campaign is over. His arrival will help fill the gap left by an injury to Galatasaray's Swedish international Tobias Linderoth, who is suffering from a rare pelvic condition. Barusso made three league appearances since joining Roma last summer.

Fenerb. 29.1 : Fenerbahce have signed Chile defensive midfielder Claudio Maldonado for an undisclosed fee from Santos. Maldonado, 28, has agreed a one-and-a-half year contract with the Turkish club. He will help to cover for Stephen Appiah, the Ghana midfielder who is out for the season due to a blood clot in his knee.

Galatas. 20.1 : Turkish international forward Necati Ates will return to Galatasaray from Ankaraspor, ending his loan spell five months early. The 28-year-old moved to Ankaraspor at the start of the season but has become unsettled. Ates has made 14 league appearances this campaign, scoring three goals.
