news: transfers

Rennes 30.6.15
Sio joins Rennes

Cote d'Ivoire striker Giovanni Sio became Stade Rennais' fifth recruit of the transfer window after putting pen to paper on a three-year, 2m contract. The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Bastia from Swiss side Basel. Rennes coach Philippe Montanier has already been busy this summer, bringing in the likes of stoppers Ludovic Baal and Pedro Mendes, midfielder Yacouba Sylla and right-back Dimitri Cavare.

Rennes 22.6.15
Sylla signs for Rennes

Yacouba Sylla will aim to kick-start his career at Rennes after leaving Aston Villa to sign a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 club. Mali international made just 24 appearances for Villa following a move from Clermont in January 2013. The defensive midfielder spent last season on loan with Kayseri Erciyesspor in the Turkish Super Lig and has now become the latest player to depart Villa Park, as Tim Sherwood oversees a close-season clear-out after the club's 17th-placed finish in the Premier League.

Marseille 20.6.15
Pele signs for Marseille

Marseille have signed goalkeeper Yohann Pele, the French Ligue 1 club confirmed on Saturday. The 32-year-old, who was a free agent after leaving second-tier Sochaux, has signed a three-year contract. Pele will provide back-up to OM captain Steve Mandanda, the France international. Pele was called up to the France squad once, in 2008, but has had to rebuild his career since spending three years out of the game after suffering a pulmonary embolism in 2010.

Nice 9.6.15
Ben Arfa completes move to Nice

Nice have completed the capture of Hatem Ben Arfa six months after initially trying to sign the former Newcastle United midfielder. The 28-year-old had hoped to join Nice last January and trained with the Ligue 1 outfit only for the move to fall through as the France international was adjudged to have fallen foul of a FIFA ruling that bans players from featuring for three clubs in the same season. However, following the opening of France's summer transfer window at midnight on Tuesday, Ben Arfa has finally put pen to paper, signing a contract of undisclosed length.

Monaco 22.1.15
Monaco make Silva move permanent

Monaco have signed midfielder Bernardo Silva on permanent terms after a successful loan spell from Benfica. The 20-year-old has appeared in 15 Ligue 1 games and three more in the Champions League since joining the principality club in the summer.

Montpel. 20.1.15
Montpellier snap up Roussillon

Montpellier have secured the services of Sochaux defender Jerome Roussillon from the start of next season. The 22-year-old left-back has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract but will spend the rest of the 2014/15 campaign on loan with Sochaux before moving to the Stade de la Mosson permanently on 30 June.

Lyon 17.1.15
Lyon sign Gnaly Maxwel Cornet

Lyon have signed Gnaly Maxwel Cornet from Metz. Cornet, 18, moves with immediate effect to the Ligue 1 front-runners and has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal. The forward has been out of favour with Metz this season, having told club officials in the summer he would not be renewing his contract that was due to expire at the end of the current campaign. Cornet, born in the Ivory Coast, joined Metz as a seven-year-old and signed professional terms aged 16.

Nice 4.1.15
Ben Arfa to join Nice

Hatem Ben Arfa is set to depart Newcastle and return to France after Nice announced a deal had been agreed in principle. The forward has been left in limbo after the failure of a loan spell with Hull, with Tigers boss Steve Bruce cutting short his stay at the KC Stadium but Newcastle unwilling to reintegrate him into their squad.
