Marco Silva set to leave Fulham for Benfica

28.5.26 Benfica

Marco Silva is reportedly close to leaving Fulham after reaching a verbal agreement to become manager of Benfica. Silva is expected to replace Jose Mourinho, who is reportedly heading to Real Madrid. Fulham attempted to keep Silva with a lucrative three-year contract worth £8 million annually, but the manager appears set on returning to Portugal. Silva leaves after a successful spell that included promotion to the Premier League and a club-record 54-point top-flight season.

FIFA extends Prestianni ban worldwide

7.5.26 Benfica

FIFA has extended Gianluca Prestianni's six-match suspension for a homophobic slur toward Vinicius Junior to apply globally, putting his 2026 World Cup hopes with Argentina in jeopardy. The Benfica winger would miss Argentina's first two group-stage matches if selected, a major setback for a fringe player fighting for a roster spot. The worldwide ban now covers competitive internationals, making it more likely that manager Lionel Scaloni opts for fully available options.
