transfers newsChivas 10.5 : Chivas USA acquired Carey Talley from Real Salt Lake on Friday, trading a conditional draft pick for the veteran defenseman. Carey is in his 11th MLS season and has played in 256 games. He has 18 goals and 25 assists. Also Friday, Chivas waived defenseman Chris Pozniak and defenseman Dan Gargan retired. Chicago 29.4 : The Chicago Fire have signed Paraguayan defender Lider Marmol. The 23-year-old, who can also play at defensive midfielder, has trained with the team since April 19 and will be cleared to play once he receives a visa and work permit. Marmol started the season in training camp with the New York Red Bulls, but the teams could not reach an agreement and Marmol returned to Chicago. Los Ang. 19.4 : The Los Angeles Galaxy acquired midfielder Joe Franchino from the New England Revolution for a second-round pick in 2009. Franchino began his career with the Galaxy in 1998 and spent 2 ,5 years with them before joining the Revolution midway through the 2000 season. He has five goals and 23 assists in 211 regular-season games and 25 postseason games. Toronto 10.4 : Former Major League Soccer player of the year Amado Guevara joined Toronto. The Honduran international was the league player of the year in 2004 with the MetroStars, since renamed the New York Red Bulls, and spent four years with club before being traded to Chivas USA. But he was released after playing only four games for the Los Angeles-based club in 2007. Guevara returned to Honduras after his release from Chivas, joining Motagua. Toronto 3.4 : Former French international Laurent Robert has joined the New England Revolution after agreeing to terminate his contract with English Premier League club Derby County by mutual consent. The 32-year-old winger signed with Derby in January but only made three starts and one appearance as a substitute. Robert's career also includes stints with Montpellier, Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain, Portsmouth, Levante and Newcastle, where he played under current Toronto coach John Carver. New York 27.3 : Colombian forward Oscar Echeverry has joined the New York Red Bulls. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 31-year-old most recently played for Atletico Nacional from 2004-07, helping his club win the 2005 and 2007 Torneo Apertura. Echeverry started his career with Deportivo Cali in 1996 and has also played for Deportivo Pasto, Young Boys in Switzerland and Caracas in Venezuela. Kansas 9.3 : The Kansas City Wizards have announced the signing of Argentinean forward Claudio Lopez. Terms of the agreement were not mentioned. The 33-year-old joined the team in Buenos Aires, where the Wizards are training until March 21. Lopez played for Argentina in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups and in 1996 Olympics, when they won the silver medal. D.C. Utd. 6.3 : Forward Santino Quaranta has rejoined D.C. United after a two-year absence. The 23-year-old spent five full seasons in Washington before he was traded to the Los Angeles Galaxy during the 2006 season. Last year, he was traded to the New York Red Bulls, where his season ended early because of a toe injury. Los Ang. 16.2 : The LA Galaxy acquired defender Greg Vanney from D.C. United in exchange for midfielder Quavas Kirk. Vanney returns to the Galaxy, where he began his career in 1996, after stints with FC Dallas, Colorado and D.C. United, as well as three years in France's Ligue 1. Kirk played 33 games for the Galaxy over three seasons, scoring his only goal in the fourth round of the 2006 U.S. Open Cup. |
