Ramsey, Williams ruled out for Wales

Aaron Ramsey and Jonny Williams have not been included in Wales' squad for the opening 2018 World Cup qualifier against Moldova on September 5. Ramsey, 25, suffered a hamstring strain while playing for Arsenal against Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. Crystal Palace midfielder Williams sustained an ankle injury in a pre-season game and has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks. Nottingham Forest's David Vaughan is not included after retiring from international football.

Ireland 22.8.16
O'Shea adds to Ireland troubles

John O'Shea is the latest player to cause concern for Ireland ahead of their opening World Cup qualifier in Belgrade next month. The veteran centre-half picked up a groin injury in the first half of Sunderland's 2-1 defeat in Sunday's derby against Middlesbrough and is now a real doubt to be available for the clash against Serbia. O'Shea has joined Seamus Coleman, the Everton right back, and Jeff Hendrick, the Derby County midfielder, on the doubtful list for the match on September 5.

League format : Soccer / Football : Euro 2016

The UEFA European Championship is scheduled to take place in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016. It will be the third time that France hosts the tournament, after the inaugural tournament in 1960 and the 1984 finals.

For the first time, the European Championship final tournament will be contested by 24 teams, having been expanded from the 16-team format used since 1996. 23 teams (the top 2 from each of the nine qualifying groups, the best third-placed team and four play-off winners) joined France who qualified automatically as hosts. The finalists will contest a group stage consisting of six groups of four teams, followed by a knockout stage including three rounds and the final.
