Basel sign Samuel

Basel 1893 have signed former Argentina defender Walter Samuel on a free transfer. The 36-year-old centre-back, whose contract at Inter expired at the end of last season, has penned a deal that runs until the end of the upcoming campaign.

After coming through the system at Newell's Old Boys, Samuel caught the eye during a three-year spell at Boca Juniors. Roma brought him to Europe in 2000 and after four successful seasons, he spent one term at Real Madrid. A fruitful nine-year stay at Inter yielded five Serie A winners' medals. Samuel lifted the Champions League trophy in the Nerazzurri's historic treble-winning campaign in 2009/10.

Basel bring in Gashi

Basel 1893 have reached an agreement with Grasshopper to sign attacking midfielder Shkelzen Gashi. The Albanian international, who was born in Zurich, will sign a four-year contract in the coming days subject to passing a medical. Both clubs have agreed to keep the details of the transfer for the 25-year-old confidential. Gashi started his career with Zurich before spells with Schaffhausen, Bellinzona, Neuchatel Xamax and Aarau. In 2012 he left for Grasshoppers and registered 24 times in 60 top-flight appearances, 19 of his goals coming last season as he finished top scorer in the Swiss Super League.
